Osterman Consulting has decades of experience in vibration, Air blast & Noise analysis, prediction and prevention. Some prediction and prevention methods are trade secrets of OC while others follow the latest industry trends (examples below)
OC expertise also includes the preparation of all forms of noise and vibration management plans and environmental noise and vibration impact statements.
Site Law – A Site law Assessments generally requires data from previous blasts including monitoring results. In cases where this is not available, a test shot is fired with multiple charge weights and monitoring points. The data from this blast is used to generate a Scale Distance relationship between explosive charge weight and vibration. This relationship can then be used to design blasts. This Blast Evaluation is conducted on site to determine local ground vibration transmission characteristics for the purpose of designing blasts to stay within set vibration limits.
Resonant Frequency Calculation – A new method to accurately predict resonant frequencies has been developed by OC using the Transfer Function. The total frequency spectra between 2 monitoring points are used to determine the resonant frequency between the points. The new method has been used in a number of projects so far and has showed extra ordinary accuracy in determining the fundamental frequency and all its harmonics
The detailed understanding of the resonant characteristics are then used to manipulate the ground vibration frequency using electronic detonators. The induced “false frequency” with minimal resonance has the potential to reduce vibration levels as well as reduce the duration of the energy, which in turn has the potential to reduce fatigue.
