Ridgeway Deeps is Newcrest Mining’s first panel cave project. Ridgeway Deeps have made use of prior experience in panel caving elsewhere to design their drawbells and undercut but have taken the designs to a higher and more challenging level. The challenging drawbells were both higher and wider. The rings weIMGP5521re more angled with a negative dump, expected to make ground at the toes and with the smallest volume of relief holes ever used. This complexity in design provided the Drill & Blast design team with an enormous challenge. A competent design team, accurate drilling, reliable emulsion, electronic detonators and some radical design ideas not only made it possible but managed to achieve world record levels of flow through dynamic void creation.
